Finishes, functionality and flair were at the forefront of Nathalie Hailey’s vision for a pair of striking Palm Springs-inspired villas in Mermaid Waters.

The interior designer teamed up with husband Brett to plan and oversee the eight-month project that brought ‘Carmel Springs’ to fruition.

“We wanted each villa to feel customised, special and unique,” says Nathalie, who engaged leading building designer Jayson Pate to prepare the plans.

“Jayson really understood our vision and he delivered.”

Number 36a Bordeaux Parade is now listed for sale with Kollosche’s Eddie Wardale in conjunction with Nicky and Jason Cunningham.

Mature palms, cacti and dry stacked stone evoke Palm Springs cool from the street while large black frame arch windows distinguish the front and rear facades.

Inside, a unique curation of finishes unfolds over two levels offering four bedrooms, three bathrooms plus a powder room, two living areas and an alfresco space.

Curved walls, pendant lighting and textured render pack a glamorous punch, while bathrooms boast custom-made illuminated basins that are a world-first.

“We’ve chosen architectural features and custom finishes that you don’t see elsewhere,” says Nathalie.

“The overall aesthetic is neutral enough to hold widespread appeal but not at the expense of personality.”

No compromise has been made on space either, with generous open plan living on the ground level and a second living area upstairs alongside a stylish study nook.

Two upper level bedrooms have two-way access to a spacious bathroom inspired by iconic New York hotel The Carlyle, while a ground-floor guest bedroom with ensuite has home office potential.

Close the door to create total privacy in the hotel-style master suite where a trio of arch windows and half-round wall battens are lit softly with round wall sconces.

The subtle textured veins of microcement accentuate the curvaceous appeal of the master ensuite where a freestanding bath invites long soothing soaks.

The inclusion of a plunge pool is another welcome surprise, with low-care irrigated gardens and Astro turf ensuring no time is lost keeping house.

Indeed, there are better things to do than mow lawns – Pacific Fair Shopping Centre is at the end of the street, while a 10-minute walklands you on the beach or dining in Broadbeach.

“This area has long been a hidden gem but not for much longer,” Nathalie says.
