Holiday at Home
June 9 2022
Set within an exclusive beachfront pocket of Tugun on the southern Gold Coast, the residence known as ‘Pacific’ boasts panoramic ocean views from Coolangatta to North Stradbroke Island.
The eye-catching Chris Clout design enjoys an elevated position high on the hillside opposite iconic Flat Rock Beach, flanked by world-class surfing beaches at Currumbin, Kirra and Snapper Rocks. There are only 24 houses opposite the beach on Pacific Parade in Tugun, which is attracting astute buyers hunting a quieter slice of paradise beyond the Gold Coast’s more prominent beachfront strips.
Prestige property agency Kollosche is marketing 662 Pacific Parade, Tugun in a national campaign which will culminate in an onsite auction on Friday 24 June at 12pm.
The Caribbean-inspired beach house is the treasured home of local real estate agent Madonna Delaney, lawyer husband Tim and their three children.
The Delaneys were in the market for a holiday home when they came across the Pacific Parade block and decided to build a home that felt like they were on holiday every day.
‘Pacific’ is the product of a detailed four-year planning, design and approval process, resulting in a one-of-a-kind vertical home that cannot be repeated under new town planning restrictions.
Looking from the beach, an 8-metre glass-edge pool appears suspended on the third level, a show-stopping feature of the four-level 800m2 structure completed two years ago by local luxury builder Mactech Constructions.
The home exudes laidback beach house vibes with a hint of Caribbean charm in the distressed French oak flooring, oversized cane fans and tropical plants.
Built-in day beds encourage sun gazing and cocktails in the pool, while salty sea breezes flow across easy open plan living.
“The finishes and style make it feel like a holiday home, but the design is much like a penthouse in that the house takes up most of the block so there’s no maintenance,” says Madonna.
A deluxe master suite with ensuite and twin dressing rooms occupies the top level, providing the ultimate parental retreat with an ocean vista worth waking up early for.
A lift connects each level down to the basement where there’s space enough for five cars or four cars with a gymnasium, as the Delaneys have done.
But it’s the location that takes life in this beachside beauty to another level.
“I grew up on the Gold Coast and to me, Tugun is a taste of what life was like as a kid,” says Madonna.
“The pace is slower and it’s pretty much the last bastion of low-density residential living along the Gold Coast coastline.
“Life revolves around the beach and locals are very laid back. Everyone heads down to Currumbin for coffee or drinks at the surf club, it’s a real village atmosphere.
“The Currumbin Oceanway bike path is one of the best things to happen here – you can ride your bike from Currumbin all the way to Coolangatta.”
Despite its many favourable attributes, the Flat Rock pocket has long been a hidden gem on the Gold Coast where premium beachfront real estate in Mermaid Beach, Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach tend to steal the limelight.
But the hip hillside hub is attracting its own share of high-profile residents who prefer the privacy, pristine beaches, and rare 20m-wide frontages unavailable elsewhere.
The exclusive enclave is also favoured by medical specialists, due to its proximity to John Flynn Private Hospital. Professionals and executives travel down from Brisbane on weekends and during the holidays, while interstate owners make good use of nearby Gold Coast Airport.
“Tugun has excellent connectivity to the M1,” says Tim.
“You’re on the motorway in five minutes and there are two sets of lights between here and Brisbane city. Tugun also has great access to Northern NSW, with Byron only 35 minutes down the road.”
Southern Gold Coast suburbs have surged in popularity in the wake of Covid, with locals and interstate migrants seeking quieter lifestyle locations with sun, sand and surf close by.
A string of boutique new projects is set to further revitalise neighbouring Bilinga, Kirra and Coolangatta where exciting new restaurants, cafes and service providers are popping up.
Kollosche Selling Principal Michael Kollosche, who has been selling premium beachfront real estate on the Gold Coast for 24 years, says Tugun’s star is on the rise.
“Beachfront opportunities are a rare commodity, and this particular precinct has been largely undiscovered and under-valued until now,” says Michael.
“Events of the past two years have seen people seek out lifestyle real estate like never before.
“The southern Gold Coast has really blossomed, and with so much activity and investment in this area there’s plenty of growth to be seen here yet.”
