When Dean Gallagher realised it was time to let go of the large family home in Sorrento and start preparing for the next chapter, landing upon the right residence was more challenging than expected.
“We were asking ourselves, when we are ready to retire, where do we want to live and what does our ideal home look like?” says Dean. “Having lived in Main Beach previously, we knew how much this community has to offer. At the time we were looking, there wasn’t much available that was new and of the quality that I had in mind. So I thought, let’s build it.”
Dean is a second generation developer with more than 30 years’ experience building and developing residential and commercial projects in Queensland under the GDI Group banner.
That expertise, combined with a passion for design and an eye for perfection, has been the powerful driver behind a boutique residential project approved for Main Beach.
Drift is set to rise 30 levels on 16-18 Hughes Avenue, an easy stroll to the Tedder Avenue dining and shopping precinct and the soft sands of Main Beach. The position promises outstanding view lines from Surfers Paradise to The Spit, across The Broadwater and to the deep blues of the ocean.
“We didn’t want to be on the beachfront, due to the elements and the limited scope to use your balconies,” says Dean. “This particular site caught my eye because it faces due north and it’s unique in the sense that there is no other land to the north that’s available to develop.”
Broadbeach-based Plus Architecture was engaged to deliver a timeless design with a strong focus on natural materials and resort-style amenities that meet the real needs of residents. The design phase took two years to complete, delivering a level of detail that’s unsurpassed in the competitive Main Beach luxury apartment market.
An infinity-edge lap pool finished in glass and cantilevered over the front of the building line creates visual drama upon arrival, while custom-made fluted panelling, backlit by night, exemplifies a level of refined sophistication that carries through on every level.
The Residences Collection occupies levels 3 to 22, where each floor delivers two 262m2 apartments, each with three-bedrooms plus ensuites, spacious living and north-east or north-west facing balconies.
Levels 23 to 27 are devoted to The Penthouse Collection – each whole floor apartment offers 531m2 including four bedrooms, each with an ensuite, media room, office and spacious indoor and outdoor living that extends to wraparound north-facing balconies.
The Penthouse delivers an astounding 1,019m2 of lavish living over two levels, including five bedrooms with ensuites, expansive indoor and outdoor living, and a private rooftop terrace with built-in barbecue kitchen and plunge pool.
Generous basement car parking features Number Plate Recognition, provision for Electric Vehicle charging and above car storage, while lockable storage rooms and a dedicated business meeting room with bathroom facilities are a practical addition on level one.
“We’ve included absolutely everything that you would expect to find in a high-end home,” says Dean. “Finishes and fixtures that would be considered upgrades in other developments are included as standard in Drift, absolutely everything has been thought of.”
An entire level is devoted to resident well-being and recreation with exclusive access to a heated pool and magnesium spa, a cold therapy pool, infrared sauna and steam room. Residents will also benefit from a fully equipped gymnasium, yoga centre and massage rooms. An outdoor barbecue area and lounge with fireplace are ideal for entertaining friends and family.
“We didn’t want to include any amenities that we wouldn’t use ourselves,” says Dean. “Everything is there to support the relaxation, rejuvenation and well-being of the residents, and further elevates the Drift living experience.”
A visit to the Drift Display Suite provides a first-hand taste of the look, feel and finish on offer inside each Drift residence. Organic materials such as natural stone, warm timbers and pure wool create layers of tone and texture, while top of the range appliances, automation and amenity complete a long list of creature comforts.
Kollosche agents Corey Gilmore and Duncan McInnes are handling all sales enquiries and extend a warm invitation to stop by the Drift Display Suite at 18 Tedder Avenue, Main Beach from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Sunday to talk through the finer details behind Drift.
